In addition to traditional Christmas shopping in department stores and shopping centres, you can buy gifts at some atmospheric pop-up shops open during the festive season.
Koskikeskus shopping centre hosts a pop up shop called Designkaverit. You can buy clothing, accessories, food, decoration and cosmetics by several Finnish companies there. There are also some workshops. Definitely worth a visit! Open till December 23.
Finlayson Area has more than one Christmas shop: Stable Yards Hohde-Christmas shop and in the building called Media 54 there is Pukimo Pop-up shop; in the space called Terde (find the entrance at Väinö Linna square) there is DOT design shop. Open: November 13- December 23.
What about buying some art as a gift? POP UP TaideJOULUpuoti by the artists is definitely worth a visit! Opening: November 26, Hallituskatu 7.
Kauppakadun joulukauppa is in Kauppakatu 3. There are Finnish hand-made products, decoration items and flowers under the same roof. Open: November 12 – December 23.
Mielan mieletön joulukauppa sells responsibly produced beautiful products by Finnish companies. Open November 15 – December 31.
Pispalan pikku puoti is under the shot tower (haulitorni). They sell environmentally friendly Finnish products from Tuesday to Sunday.
If you want to take a ride, you could visit Liuttu farm in Teisko (25 km from the city centre) and feel the traditional Christmas atmosphere in the countryside. The café and shop are open on Saturdays in November and Saturdays & Sundays in December.
