Tampere Christmas Market fills the Central Square with warm and cozy Christmas atmosphere! Little wooden booths are filled with handicrafts, design, jewellery, treats, toys and much more from Finland and abroad. You can also try the delicious dishes and snacks of the cafes and restaurants on the area or enjoy the daily program. Tampere Christmas Market is like another world in the center of Tampere. Opening of Tampere Christmas starts with traditional Christmas parade at 2 pm from Hämeenpuisto park. The parade continues its route to Kauppakatu – Aleksis Kiven katu and finally to the central square Keskustori at around 2.15 pm. At the square the event continue when the Christmas lights of the Central Square’s Christmas tree are lit. There will be facepaintings, glitter make-ups and tattoos available, and you can also spot Santa Claus and Snow Queen at the Tampere Christmas Market! Read more about the event here.
Tallipiha Stable Yards’ Christmas celebrates their 20 -year anniversary! In the beautiful wooden houses you can find shops, boutiques and a cafe with delicious treats, hot beverages and freshly baked goods. Little booths at the yard are filled with quality handicrafts and design. Children will enjoy the pretty carousel in the yard and petting the farm animals in the stable. Doghill’s Christmas in Särkänniemi Amusement Park welcomes children to decorate ginger breads, to do arts and crafts, to play and sing in the beautiful milieu inspired by Mauri Kunnas’ books. Children can also meet the farm animals, enjoy some christmassy treats and they might just see a glimpse of Santa Claus as well. Experiental Christmas of Finlayson brings together 100 events in milieu of Finlayson during Christmas time. Come shopping in the pop up boutiques, take part in handicraft workshops, enjoy music in Finlayson Church or admire art at Art Centers and exhibitions! Cultural house Laikku, together with Suomen Jouluvalo Ltd, create a realm of ice sculptures right to the centre of Tampere. The Laikku park will house an ice sculpture tent, where people can get astonished by the mystical world full of ice, snow and light, created by different ice sculptors. The theme of this year is Tamperettaret – Tampere’s most beautiful female genies. The opening of the ice sculpture tent is 30.11.2019 at 3 pm! Read more about the tent here.
December’s evening hall leads us towards the Christmas feel. Glasses full of warm mulled wine and lovely season’s delicacies accompanied by the atmospheric string music by the Camarette orchestra. Market hall’s traditional evening market in December is held exceptionally on the first Thursday of the month. The market hall will be open until 8 pm and the stage will come alive at 5 pm. At the Runeberg’s Hut you will find handcrafted products from twenty different artisans from the Tampere Region. The products are made for example from class, wood and ceramics. The Hut is open from Wednesday to Sunday between 24.11. – 23.12. at 13-18 except 24.11. and 8.12. when the hut is open at 13-16. The hut is closed exceptionally 6.12. The Hut is located at the mansion area of Haihara.
The fact is that locals of Tampere love doughnuts any time of the year! The best doughnuts of Tampere are made by Pyynikki Observation Tower’s café. You can get your hands on these delicious treats at Central Square at the Tampere Christmas Market or at their own cafe at the edge of Central Square. You can also enjoy these treats at their birthplace in Pyynikki Observation Tower. Buy your doughnut and cup of coffee and climb to the top to see the frozen views!
