Tampere is situated ideally for lakeside experiences, as it is between two big lakes, Näsijärvi and Pyhäjärvi. By the waterside, soaking in the fresh air and sceneries, a tasty meal turns into an exquisite experience!
In the summertime the area around the Ratina bay and the Laukontori quay fills up with people and a nice atmosphere, as well as opportunities to enjoy a drink or a meal out in the fresh lakeside air. Gastroboat m/s Tampere can be found either on the Laukontori quay or on the waves of Pyhäjärvi, as this long-served boat makes cruises as well as offers tasty food. The dishes are made from local ingredients and range from tapas to for example a pike burger! Also located in Laukontori market square is Sauna & Restaurant Kuuma. Go and enjoy a nice drink, Nordic cuisine and try the sauna! In front of the shopping centre Koskikeskus you can find the restaurant boat Little Joe, serving salads, focaccias and pizzas baked in an open fire oven. On the other side of the bay, on the stadium’s side, there’s Players Boat, offering some barbecue bites and of course refreshing beverages.
If you’re not feeling hungry as much as thirsty, the Ratina bay will offer you a helping drink! Boat restaurant Suvi is the longest-floating boat docked on the Laukontori side, and for many locals the summer season starts with a cold drink on the deck of this boat. On the other side of the bay, close to the Ratina stadium, you can quench your thirst at the restaurant Laituri. Laituri is open in the evenings, when you can also enjoy some live music or a DJ playing.
In addition to the boat restaurants, restaurant Ranta offers a beach-like setting for a casual meal such as tacos, salad or burgers (food served only in the summertime, in winters and summernights Ranta serves as a nightclub only). If instead of the lakeside you’d like to see more of the rapids flowing through the city, you can head to Koskipuisto park and take a window seat at the restaurant Puisto. Puisto serves lunch as well as à la carte later in the day, with for example some ready menus to choose from. A very iconic Tampere scenery can be found by the Näsijärvi lake, close to Särkänniemi amusement park at the Mustalahti harbor’s restarant Kaisla. Kaisla serves lunch and à la carte with a seaside twist, and in the evenings there might be some additional local taste served in the form of some live music.
Finnish Silverline’s boats can take you from the shore to the middle of the lake to enjoy the atmosphere and the food – in the summertime, there are both lunch and evening cruises on the waves of lake Näsijärvi. If you like to keep your feet firmly on the ground while eating, but still a little cruise would be nice too, you can hop on a boat to go to the lovely, lush Viikinsaari island where the restaurant Viikinsaari offers tasty meals in the middle of the blue and green lakeside nature. You can also bring your own snacks with you and have a picnic on the island.
