Tampere is Finland’s theatre capital, but also international theatre can be enjoyed here.
Cats – A fantastic musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber in Tampere Theatre. Premiered in September 2017.
Loopit is choreographer Tero Saarinen’s 20th anniversary gift to Dance Theatre MD. Marking a departure from Saarinen’s recent, large-scale works, Loopit is an intimate and experimental limited-audience piece that examines the relationship between a dance performer and an audience while exploring the performance space itself. Premiered in 4.2.2017.
Sorin Sirkus is a youth circus known for their impressive Christmas shows. They also have some shows in springtime. The circus is situated in Nekala area.
Tampere Theatre Festival
The premier event for it is Tampere Theatre Festival that is organized every summer. It is one of Europe’s most important festivals of professional theatre, serving as a display window for the finest productions in Finnish and international theatre. In 2018, the festival takes place 6–12 August.
Tampere Theatre Festival also includes The Great Nocturnal Happening. It is a cross-artistic carnivalesque event that takes place all around the city of Tampere. Numerous associations, organizations and performers join their forces with hundreds of performances in various locations to bring the city alive for this special late summer evening. Most of the events are free of charge for audience.
The Finland International Improv Festival
The Finland International Improv Festival also takes place annually in Tampere. This festival is usually held in the beginning of June, and it is known for bringing a great variety of improvisational theatre shows and fantastic improv instructors from all around the world to Finland. The FiiF is the happening for global improvisers to gather together and have lots of fun! The 7th annual festival will be held June 12 – 16, 2018.
