It’s time to celebrate vappu, the First of May!


We listed some activities that you can do in Tampere at vappu weekend even though traditional May Day celebrations are not possible.

You don’t have to spend the weekend indoors if you don’t want to. For those people who want to take a walk in the city centre, the Finlayson area is definitely the place to visit. You will find things to see and experience for the whole family, or a group of friends.

Room Escape is open for the whole weekend. Book your game online. At Viihdekeskus ZBase you will find an Arcade Gallery and LaserMaxx laser tag games. Also some board games available.

Have you tried the Finlayson Roof Walk? Take the best pictures from above but remember to book your visit online! There is also a cafe.

Spy Museum celebrates its birthday on the May, 1. The guides are dressed as spies, and if you want to dress up, you will get reduced admission.

Do you want to visit buy your balloon at the May Market (vapputori)? The markets Laukontori and Tammelantori are open on April, 30 and May, 1 from 8 am to 8 pm. 

There are no live concerts during the weekend in Tampere, but luckily you can listen to some music online G Livelab invites you to a streamed Mama Longhorn concert on April, 30 and the outdoor silent disco feat DJ Juan Calia on May, 1. Definitely not to be missed! All spring concerts by Tampere Filharmonia are on YouTube. The First of May concert starts at 3 pm.


Eating out or takeaway?

Several restaurants are taking reservations for their brunches on May, 1. Some offer baskets for picnics. See the webpages for more information and don’t forget the doughnuts!

Ahlman Ravintola Anna thas a special First of May many on April, 20 and May, 1. Alternatively Tilapuoti sells doughtnuts, cheeseplatters and “sima”.

Ravitsemisliike Aisti lets you decide if you want to pick their special menu to eat at home on Friday or eat it at the restaurant on Saturday. 

Kulttuuriravintola Kivi’s brunch is served on May 1, between 11 am and 3 pm. No reservations!

Myllärit sells picnic baskets on Friday. You can also book a table for the brunch on Saturday.

Rillinki is open if the weather is nice. Street food, beer and other drinks.

Samppanja Bar Santé has Mayday Brunch with champagne. Book a table!

Tiiliholvi’s delicious May four-course-meal can be taken away or enjoyed in the atmospheric restaurant.

Tapas Bar Inez re-opens on April, 29. 

Ravintola Tampella’s First of May celebrations last all weekend.

Tullikamarin Klubi celebrates May, spring and life. You can have brunch at 1 pm.

Cafe Valkoinen puu offers delicacy boxes with cakes and “sima” drink. The cafe is also open.

Kitchen&Bar at Courtyard has brunch boxes that you can empty during your picnic or take home.

Periscope with its awesome terrace serves bruch. Book your table!

Plevna, the brewery and restaurant, has breakfast and brunch with “sima” drink and sausages. For more information, see here

Vaihmalan hovi  in Lempäälä sells you May boxes on April, 30, and picnic bags on May, 1.

Don’t forget to get some doughnuts at Pyynikki! They are said to be the best in the whole world.
