Together stronger than ever

June is the international LGBTQIA+ Pride Month, and Pride will be celebrated in Tampere from June 10th to 16th, 2024. Manse Pride is celebrating its 10th anniversary, with the theme of “Together Stronger Than Ever” for this special year. Throughout the week, different organizations will host various events for all ages. The week culminates in the Manse Pride march and main celebration in Sorsapuisto on Saturday, June 15th. Hum of LGBTQ history

One of the most famous artists in Finnish history and a well-known figure in LGBTQIA+ history, Tove Jansson’s life story can be explored at the World’s only Moomin Museum in Tampere. In addition to Tove’s other works, the Moomin Museum currently features the “An Artist’s Life – Tove Jansson” exhibition, which will be open to the public until May 18, 2025. The exhibition covers Tove Jansson’s artistic output as well as the stages of her life and relationships.

Inspiring Queer Art

In Serlachius manor, in the art city of Mänttä, the American artist Devan Shimoyama’s “Fade Cut” exhibition will be on display until August 18, 2024. Shimoyama’s barber installation combines drag queen culture, mythologies, and art historical influences with his own personal experiences in a carnival-like manner. The works often address themes related to gender, sexuality, and race. Tip: You can conveniently reach Mänttä by taking the Serlachius Art & Sauna Express bus directly from Tampere’s railway station!

Have fun in safe spaces

Located in Tampere, Nightclub Mixei, Finland’s oldest still-operating LGBTQ nightclub, invites the LGBTQIA+ community and their friends to celebrate as their true selves. On Wednesdays, the club hosts music bingo and karaoke, and on weekends, the dance floor is open for showing off your moves! Mixei also features guest artists, drag performances, themed nights, and highly popular singles parties from time to time.

Tampere’s new, captivating series of queer events, [KVÄÄR], is a fun, quirky, and sex-positive event series held at Tavara-asema. Celebrating LGBTQ culture, the queer-themed [KVÄÄR] -events are open to all friends of the LGBTQIA+ community. Come experience the sense of community, safety, and unforgettable moments at [KVÄÄR] events!

Feeling like dancing? Queer club, Club Nylon at Tullikamari fills the dance floor with pop, techno, R’n’B, and house music, while the legendary “Leimarit” parties delight the LGBTQIA+ party crowd from time to time.
