May Day Markets & traditions

For traditional May Day festivities you should head to Hämeenpuisto park. Get your delicacies, decorations and balloons there from April 30th to May 1st, open 9am-6pm each day. In addition you can also find May Day activities at Laukontori and Tammelantori.

Traditional part of May Day in Tampere is Teekkarikaste, where engineering students from Tampere University are dipped in the Tammerkoski rapids on the 1st of May. The event begins at 1pm at Koskipuisto park.

A sure sign of the spring is the Särkänniemi amusement park opening its doors on 30th of April!

Brunch and May Day go together like strawberries and milk 

Many restaurants in Tampere offer delicious brunches on May Day! Most of the restaurants accept bookings, as brunches are very popular on weekends and holidays.

Tampere Hall’s May Day brunch will be served on May 1st from 12 am to 3 pm.  You can book your spot and pay for brunch in advance via their online store.

At Restaurant Periscope, May Day is celebrated with a brunch from 12 pm to 4 pm.

Champagne bar Santé offers May Day Champagne Brunch on May 1st with Ilmari Saarikoski as a guest. Be quick, because the brunch can only accommodate limited participants!

Enjoy a tasty May Day brunch at Sauna Restaurant Kuuma on May 1st from 12 pm to 17 pm.

Tampere Theater’s May Day brunch is a tasty highlight of the holiday. Brunch is served in the upper hall of the main stage. Don’t forget to make a table reservation!

Restaurant Laterna has a table full of brunch treats on May 1st from 12 pm to 19 pm.

Saivo Kitchen and Bar serves May Day buffet according to its style with the flavors of Finnish nature and Lapland.

How does enjoying a May Day buffet in the wonderful setting of Finlayson’s Palace sound? Make a table reservation for their traditional May Day buffet.

Vaihmalan Hovi in Lempäälä a traditional May Day brunch is served in a beautiful countryside milieu.

Restaurant Dabbal at Lapland Hotels Tampere offers their May Day menu on May 1st from 2 pm to 19 pm.

At Restaurant Tampella May Day is celebrated on May 1st with a traditional May Day menu! Additionally, a delicious May Day menu is served at restaurant Ohranjyvä.

Last but not least… there is no May Day without the legendary Pyynikki doughnuts! You can get them at the Pyynikki Observation Tower Café or their café at Tampere Market Hall.

May Day’s Music & other things to do

Enjoy the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra at their May Day concert where enchanting operetta melodies will be heard on May 1st at 3 pm. The soprano Angelika Klas will shine as the soloist.

Celebrate May Day at YO-talo with BASS GAME residents on April 30th and on 1st of May at 1.30 pm and 3 pm (K18) legendary Martti Servo & Napander will be taking the stage in the traditional May Day Matinea.

Ready to party all night long? Hang The DJ with DJs Sami & Antti will keep your eyes open at Pakkahuone Klubi on 30.4.-1.5. from 10 pm to 5 am. 

The K40 disco at Tavara-asema offers a May Day party for a more mature taste starting from 7pm on April 30th.

Tallipiha Stable Yards traditional May Day for children with ponies and other fun activities takes place May 1st from 10 am to 4 pm. 

For children and others young at heart, there’s also a fun and exciting caving adventure offering plenty to do!

Room Escape in Finlayson is open during May Day celebrations. So how about challenging yourself with an escape room?

Sauna

Sauna is always a good idea in the world’s sauna capital! Enjoy May Day at Sauna Restaurant Kuuma’s saunas and bask in the spring weather on the cozy outdoor terrace. If you dare, you can even take a dip in the cool Ratina bay! The Rauhaniemi Folk Spa, Kaukajärvi sauna and Kaupinoja saunas are also open on May Day.

There’s also a public sauna session at the stunning Serlachius Art Sauna on 30th of April. You will easily get there from Tampere city centre by the Serlachius Art & Sauna Express.

Stay the night, or even longer if you wish
