Tampere Opera’s production of the year 2019 is Giacomo Puccini’s La Bohème. La Bohème is one of world’s most loved operas. Last time La Bohème has been seen in Tampere Opera in the year 1978. This piece is directed by Kari Heiskanen and top opera artists are seen in the roles such as sopranos Helena Juntunen and Suvi Väyrynen, tenor Jesus Garcia as well as baritones Arttu Kataja and Waltteri Torikka.
One of Finland’s most successful composer of present day is Kaija Saariaho and she will be the composer guest of the spring in Tampere Hall. In Focus Kaija Saariaho is a ensemble of two concerts called From the Grammar of Dreams and La Passion de Simone.
The From the Grammar of Dreams- concert will include Saariaho’s pieces From the Grammar of Dreams and Lonh and they are performed by soprano Pia Freund, violinist Minna Pensola and dancer Minna Tervamäki.
The La Passion de Simone- piece will be preformed by orchestra Avanti! and Parisian musical theater group La Chambre aux echos. Soloist of the concert is Japanese soprano Sayuri Araida and French actor Isabelle Seleskovitch. The piece will be performed in French and subtitled in Finnish.
Artist professor Jorma Uotinen has performed at l’Opera de Paris, he has been a judge on the Finnish version of Dancing With the Stars and he is also known as a singer. In his ‘Avec le temps’ performance, he takes you under the Parisian sky to hear chansons about the inevitable passage of time, the limits imposed on our life, longing, and death – about all of us. His setlist includes beautiful works by Léo Ferré, Jacques Brel, Míkis Theodorákis and Jari Hakkarainen.
Ida Elina is a modern pop-kantele player and a singer songwriter who amazes with her golden voice. Ida Elina’s unique style effortlessly combines kantele with vibrant contemporary pop and ancient folk tunes. She has quickly become a YouTube star with the views of her videos in hundreds of thousands. Besides Finland, Ida Elina has performed in the United States, Japan, China, and all over Europe.
Milo & Moses is the youngest ever Finnish jazz band to release a record. They have played together for three years and have been praised for their maturity. They do gigs regularly and their music can often be heard on the radio. The core members of the band are Milo Mäkelä (electric guitar) and Moses Kuloniemi (drums), both 17 years of age. 19-year-old Jon Pettersson plays double bass in the band.
One of the most well-known fado- singer of Portugal Christina Branco visits Tampere Hall in spring. Branco’s singing is powerful, delicate and versatile. She keeps the Portuguese folklore alive with her own unique way. Branco’s songs combine timeless lyrics with amazing musicians.
Venezuelan classical trumpet player Pacho Flores is known for his energetic interpretations. Flores combines classical and popular styles effortlessly; in fact, he is considered one of the best classical trumpetists of our time. At Tampere Flores will play a recital with his eight different trumpets and pianist Tuomas Turriago. This multi-awarded virtuoso won the Global Music Award gold medal for his album Entropia last year.
Described as the “voice of tango in the 21st century” and the “best voice of Buenos Aires”, Martín Alvaradois one of Argentina’s most prominent contemporary tango singers and one of the finest vocalists in the history of tango. He has performed on various stages and on TV in Europe, Asia, and South America. The collaboration between Alvarado and Finnish Nuevo Quinteto Otra Vez band represents so-called “nuevo tango”, a new wave of tango music. Alvarado and Nuevo Quinteto Otra Vez are set to release their second album next March, to coincide with their tour in Finland. The album was recorded in Buenos Aires last year, and it features both older Argentinean and Finnish tangos and new works by Fabion Bertero and Matti Laukkanen.
dylan Moran is a Irish stand up- comedian who visits Tampere Hall with his tour Dr Cosmos. His performance’s topics vary from love to politics and the hilarious ordinary life of ordinary people. Moran is known for his poetic and witty performances and he is even referred as the Oscar Wilde of the British stand up.
