Aitoneva is a versatile tourist attraction to visit in Kihniö, Finland. There is a modern museum, a machine exhibition, a bird tower, an environmental trail and two sheds in the area. Aitoneva is owned by Neova Oy and it is part of Lauhanvuori-Hämeenkangas UNESCO Global Geopark.
The peat museum of Aitoneva exhibits the history of industrial-scale peat production in Finland: peat production, including the development, history, usage of peat and environmental management of the industry. Utilizing peat for energy started during the Second World War at Aitoneva, and many processes and procedures used in the production of peat were first tested at Aitoneva. The machine exhibition is open year-round, and the indoor exhibition is open in the summertime.
The restoration of the peat production area can be seen on the nature trail. A bird tower is located on the edge of a wetland. The wetland serves as a post-use form for the peat production area and as a water treatment structure.
Opening hours of summer cafe will be announced on the facebook-site.
