Annikki Poetry Festival (est. 2003) is one of Finland’s most international and significant poetry events and original cultural festivals. It has also spawned Annikki OFF, a three-day series of events around the city. We have invited high profile international poetry performers, for example John Cooper Clarke (UK) and Mutabaruka (JAM). Our Finnish performers represent both more established authors and more recent voices. Annikki Poetry Festival is organised by volunteers every two years.
The venue of the Annikki Poetry Festival is a 110-year-old Annikki Wooden Quarter in the centre of Tampere city, which has served as a very special, warm and welcoming milieu for poets and audience to meet and mingle.
The 2022 Annikki Poetry Festival will be held on 11 June from 11 am to 10 pm. At the festival, the present will engage in dialogue with the past under the theme On the Shoulders of Giants. The event will examine the influence of previous generations of poets and artists on the present day and on the creative work of the performers.
The festival will once again feature prominent international performers, a fine selection of Finnish poets as well as music, prose writers, children’s programme and visual arts. The international performers are Flying Words Project (USA), Imogen Stirling (UK), Ghayath Almadhoun (SYR), Elías Knörr (IS). Finnish performers include names like Ursus Factory, Heli Laaksonen & Harri Hertell, Johanna Venho, Antti Paalanen and Jukka Viikilä.
