The 1st demolition art house in Tampere, Pinni47, brings completely new kind of art to the cultural summer of the city centre! Prior to its demolition, a building located in the Tulli area will be converted into an art exhibition and cultural venue that breaks down barriers and walls. Similar art projects have never before been implemented in Tampere. The exhibition, curated by visual artist Teemu Mäenpää, will be open between 7 June and 30 July 2023 at Pinninkatu 47, Tampere.
The call for artists received nearly 140 proposals, of which 24 artists / artist groups were selected. The exhibition will cover a wide representation of different art forms and an ample amount of ground-breaking, site-specific art. Various artworks, such as paintings, mechanical sculptures, installations, textile art, photos, video art, light art, and murals, will be on display. In addition to the curated exhibition, which is subject to a fee, there will be a free-of-charge art area open to everyone. During the summer, this area will host pop-up exhibitions, video installations, events, and workshops.
– Our main goal is to provide both residents and visitors with a surprising, inspiring, and easily accessible art meeting place for the summer. The Demolition Art House Pinni47 will bring forth new kinds of experimental cultural experiences and a possibility to explore new local art right in the city centre. The building’s walls, stairways, and apartments alike will be filled with art, constituting a living, complete work of art. There will be an abundance of site-specific art, says project producer Meiju Mertanen.
