Backlight is a photography festival held every three years by Photographic Centre Nykyaika. The festival is one of the oldest international photograph festival in Northern Europe. The 13th festival highlights timely photography and video art with the theme of Cruel Radiance.

The festival invites visitors to ponder on what kind of evidentiary power can we associate with images in a world where man-made crises and conflicts have long since exceeded human proportions
