Tampere Opera’s spring 2024 major production is Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata, which is one of the world’s most performed operas of all time. The work has been performed twice before in Tampere Opera, in 1949 and 1969.

The main character of the favorite tragic opera is the courtesan Violetta, with whom the romantic Alfredo falls in love. The role of Violetta is interpreted by soprano Marjukka Tepponen, who is familiar with the tragic character from the early years of her career; Tepponen made her debut in 2008 in the role of Violetta in Jyväskylä Opera. Since then, Tepponen’s impressive career has taken her to key international and domestic performance stages. The piece is directed by Samuel Harjanne, who is making his operatic debut, and is known especially for his musical directions that have been successful with audiences and reviews. Tampere Philharmonic is conducted by the Italian conductor Giancarlo Andretta.
