Among the world’s most beloved classical choral-orchestral works, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Requiem was commissioned by Count Franz von Walsegg in memory of his late young wife.

At the time, Mozart had just completed his opera The Magic Flute and was working on the Requiem as his health began to decline. The composition remained unfinished when he passed away at the age of only 36 in December 1791. Mozart’s student Franz Xaver Süssmayr completed the work based on his teacher’s notes, sketches, and musical fragments, composing several movements entirely himself.

In Requiem, the dramatic power of Mozart’s mature musical language envelops the text of the Mass for the Dead in shades of sorrow, intensity, hope, and consolation. The bright voices of youth choirs bring a touching new light to this timeless masterpiece.
