Tampereen päivä – Tampere Day is coming again!
Tampere’s 244th anniversary will be celebrated with the traditional Tampereen päivä – Tampere Day event from 29 September to 1 October 2023. Get into the festive spirit!
Experience Tampere from the perspective of Lake Näsijärvi on a short cruise aboard m/s Isosaari. Departures on the hour from Mustalahti on Saturday, October 30th, and Sunday, October 1st, from 11 AM to 4 PM. Weather permitting. M/S Isosaari is a former rescue vessel that operated on Lake Näsijärvi and is now owned by the Tampere Parish Union.
The event yard of the stable yard is filled with visiting handymen. Come and admire the handicrafts and make good purchases. The traditional Tampere Day event will again be held over two days. There is also live music, horse-drawn carriage rides and pony trotting in the yard.
TAD Week, which stands for Tampere Architecture and Design Week, offers a diverse range of interesting seminars, inspiring exhibitions, practical workshops, as well as unique visiting locations and open doors. The event illuminates the historic Finlayson area in the center of Tampere from September 29th to October 6th, 2023.
Nearby! – Sustainable Food Culture Event at the Market Hall
The ‘Nearby!’ event, which highlights sustainable food systems and local food diversity, celebrates the beginning of the kekri season on Saturday, September 30th, at the Market Hall. The event kicks off with a free themed tour exploring the history and present of the Market Hall.
Walk through the beautiful city together with a guide and hear about the history and present day of Tampere. The tour starts and finishes at Central square. Sat, September 30, from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM Sun, October 1, from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM.
Being the largest and most international district in Tampere, Hervanta is constantly growing and developing. It is a hub of education and offers plenty of cultural activities, unique architecture, and beautiful nature. During this walking tour, you will hear more about Hervanta and its history. Tours will take place on Saturday and Sunday 12-13.30 and will start at Hervanta Square (Hervannan tori), Insinöörinkatu 38. Free entry.
The Lenin Museum: behind the scenes
On the “Behind the Museum Scenes” celebration day, September 30th, the Lenin Museum offers free admission all day! The program includes a guided tour in English at 1:00 PM, with a duration of approximately 45 minutes. Following the tour at 2:00 PM, Dr. Katarina Lopatkina, a researcher at the Lenin Museum, will provide insights into the museum’s collections. Additionally, on Tampere Day, Sunday, October 1st, the Lenin Museum offers free admission throughout the day from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. On Tampere Day, there will also be public guided tours of the exhibition at 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM for visitors to enjoy.
Tampere Day at the Finnish Labour Museum Werstas
In the museum lobby, there will be a book and flea market from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Items for sale will include Workers’ Calendars from different years, Tampere-themed books, and various other vintage items. At 3:00 PM, there will be a guided tour of the Industrial Museum, lasting 45 minutes. The tour departs from the exhibition floor’s lobby. At 4:00 PM, Kalle Kallio will give a lecture titled “Railway Builders in Tampere.” The lecture will take place in the museum’s auditorium and will last for 90 minutes.
Tampere Day at the Emil Aaltonen Museum
The exhibitions at the Emil Aaltonen Museum are open on Tampere Day. In addition to the permanent exhibitions ‘Emil Aaltonen 1869-1949 – Industrialist and Patron of the Arts’ and ‘Emil Aaltonen Art Collection,’ there is also a special exhibition on display titled ‘Plastic – Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow.
Tampere Day weekend at the Hiekka Art Museum
Tampere Day weekend 30.9.–1.10. You can visit the Hiekka Art Museum with an entrance fee of 5 euros (the Museum Card is also valid), children under school age are free of charge. In addition to the main exhibition presenting the museum’s own collections, there is also an exhibition of the works of sculptor, painter and graphic artist Mauno Kivioja. The museum is open on Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 to 16:00.
On Tampere Day weekend, September 30th to October 1st, you can visit the Spy Museum for the price of a child’s ticket (5 euros). The museum is open from 12 PM to 6 PM on both days. Your ticket also includes a spy quiz and agent gallery tasks. Exciting prizes will be raffled among those who answer correctly.

Free admission to Tampere Art Museum on Tampere Day
There is free admission to Tampere Art Museum all day on Sunday, 1 October 2023, in celebration of Tampere Day. There will be no guided tours on Tampere Day. The museum features two exhibitions: Young Artist of the Year 2023: Eetu Huhtala – a pillow fort & other soft things and Backlight’23.
Free admission to the exhibitions at Vapriikki. Does not apply to the Once Upon a Time exhibition.
Tampere Day in museum Milavida
Welcome to celebrate Tampere Day at Museo Milavida! Free admission to the exhibitions from 11 am to 6 pm. Please note: There will be no guided tours on the event day.
Big Machines at the Central Square – Industrial Showroom
Once again, Big Machines at the Central Square is bringing together the most renowned industrial companies to showcase their equipment in the heart of Tampere on Saturday, September 30. Join to explore the future of technology and the world of mobile work machines! Mikirotta and Boheemi will reward the top three participants of a social media competition held before the event at the Central Square at 12:00 PM.
Koulukatu Mini Golf traditionally celebrates Tampere Day by offering free games to all customers on Sunday, October 1st, from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Welcome to enjoy a game! Additionally, you can purchase coffee or tea, ice cream, and refreshments from the kiosk.
Welcome to enjoy playing pinball and other arcade games at Pinball Union in Nekala, Tampere! An open gaming day is organized for everyone on Friday, September 29th, from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
International Tampere City Adventure
Join the Tampere Day festivities with a fun multicultural City Adventure game! The simple mobile game is free in Finnish and English and can be downloaded easily. The game can be played throughout the whole weekend of September 30th to October 1st. The game’s checkpoints are located about a kilometer from Tammerkoski, and the tasks are suitable for all ages, including young children. Time: 30.9 – 1.10 from 12 to 6 p.m.
Open doors at Swimming Pools and Gyms
In honor of Tampere Day, all residents are offered free access to all swimming pools on Sunday, October 1st. Additionally, Tampere Swimming Centre offers the opportunity to use the outdoor pools. On Sunday, free access is also available at the city’s fitness centers.

At the Verkaranta Autumn Cleaning event, you can make affordable finds from various materials to finished products. The clearance sale takes place at Verkaranta on two floors, in the first-floor yarn store and the second-floor Taitokeskus (Craft Center). On Tampere Day, Saturday, September 30th, there will also be a pop-up café open from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Additionally, you can participate in the “Charm of Crochet – Molla Mills Style” course, but you need to register separately at taitopirkanmaa.fi/kasityokurssit.
