European Masters Athletics Championships 2021 will be held in Tampere!

The European Masters Athletics Championships will be held in Tampere in 2021. Tampere was elected the host city by the European Masters Athletics (EMA), in their congress in Jesolo, near Venice in Italy.

The championships will be organized in Tampere in 2021, June 3-10. The main arena for the competition is the Ratina Stadium.

– Tampere is a strong organizer of juniors’ European championships, and now for the first time, the masters will arrive to Tampere to compete on top European level and break some records, the Head of Events of the City of Tampere, Perttu Pesä, rejoices.

The chairman of the Finnish Federation of Adult Sports SAUL, Tapio Lindroos believes that the Tampere championships will be a well-organized event with top athletes.

– At the European Masters championships taking place in Jesolo as we speak, there are about 4100-4200 athletes. I believe that Tampere will be reaching for 4500-5000 athletes participating, as the amount of Finns competing will alone be much higher than right now in Italy, says Lindroos.

– For us, Tampere being selected as the host city is a great thing. We have applied for the championships before too, and now we got there. One of our strong points was the good reputation of Finland and Tampere  as championships organizer.

Tampere has previously organized the European and World Athletics U20 Championships, as well as the European Athletics U23 Championships. The central location of the Ratina Stadium is also one of Tampere’s fortés.

– Well, it is a big deal that the athletes can just walk from their hotels to the stadium, Pesä summarizes.
