The 2019 autumn season of Tampere Hall, the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra and Moomin Museum kicks off with two free events on the weekend of 9–10 August: Park Concert on Friday and Garden Party on Saturday. In previous years, these events have attracted up to 10,000 friends of culture to Sorsapuisto park.

Brought to you by Tampere Hall and Tampereen Sähkölaitos, the highly anticipated Park Concert takes place in Sorsapuisto park on Friday the 9th of August. The star of the free open air concert is Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra and its Chief Conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali. As in 2018, the park area will also have restaurant services and ticket sales booths.

Tampere Filharmonia starts playing at 7 pm, bringing you a taste of Tampere Hall’s autumn programme and memories from the orchestra’s trip to France in July. The concert’s vocalist is mezzo-soprano Niina Keitel, who will be singing the leading role in Tampere Opera’s production of Carmen in 2020. At the Park Concert, Keitel will be performing arias from Carmen and immersing herself in the world of Finnish tango. The concert is hosted by Curator Helena Hiilivirta.

“The Park Concert has become a staple event in Tampere, and we always have fun doing it,” says Rouvali.

The concert’s warm-up act, The Dumb Stuff Band, starts playing at 5:15 pm. Comprised of the orchestra’s own musicians and their friends, the band plays soul and funk classics, with actor-singer Mikko Leppilampi and soul singer Johanna Försti, also known from Finnish TV’s Dancing with the Stars, as the lead singers. From 4:30 pm onwards, you can set up a picnic of your own or enjoy restaurant Tuhto’s delicious products at the park while listening to swinging jazz versions of pop and rock hits, courtesy of S-Wings by DJ Juissi.

The Park Concert is brought to you by Tampere Hall, Events Tampere, Tampere Filharmonia and Tampereen Sähkölaitos.
