Tampere will continue in the competition for the title of European Capital of Culture 2026

Tampere, Oulu and Savonlinna and have been shortlisted in the competition for the title of European Capital of Culture 2026 in Finland.

The second phase of the competition will start next autumn. Tampere and the 19 cities in the region will then meet and make decisions about funding. They will also expand and develop further the bid book for European Capital of Culture 2026.

Cities will have until early 2021 to complete their applications. The panel will then meet again in Helsinki in spring 2021 to recommend the Finnish city to become the European Capital of Culture 2026.

The cities of the region applying for the European Capital of Culture 2026 in Finland are Tampere, Akaa, Hämeenkyrö, Ikaalinen, Kangasala, Kuhmoinen, Lempäälä, Mänttä-Vilppula, Nokia, Orivesi, Parkano, Pirkkala, Pälkäne, Ruovesi, Sastamala, Urjala, Valkeakoski, Vesilahti, Virrat and Ylöjärvi.
