Mustamakkara, literally translated black sausage, is a Finnish blood sausage made from pork meat, blood and rye flour. Mustamakkara is a local speciality in Tampere and best enjoyed warm from a market stall. Mustamakkara has been produced in the region since the 19th century.<\/p>\n<p>When buying mustamakkara from the market stalls, locals specify the amount of money they want to spend on sausage instead of the weight or the size. Another typical way of ordering it is to get a \u2018menopaluu\u2019, literally translated \u2018out-and-return\u2019 that refers to the U-shaped form of the whole sausage. Lingonberry jam is traditionally served with mustamakkara.<\/p>\n<p>Where to get it:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/visittampere.fi\/en\/attraction\/tampere-market-hall\/\"><strong>Tampere Market Hall Kauppahalli<\/strong><\/a>. Lihakipparit is the meat store that sells warm black sausage.<\/li>\n<li>The oldest producer of the sausage, <strong>Tapola,<\/strong>\u00a0kiosks on the market squares <a href=\"https:\/\/visittampere.fi\/en\/attraction\/tammelantori-square\/\">Tammelantori<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/visittampere.fi\/en\/attraction\/laukontori-market-square\/\">Laukontori<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Hot wings<\/h2>\n<p>Locals like it hot when it comes to saunas and chicken wings. Hot wings have won a place on the map of local specialties holding a special place in the locals\u2019 hearts. The best place to head for your special hot wings experience is restaurant <a href=\"https:\/\/visittampere.fi\/en\/restaurant\/siipiweikot-tampere-city-center\/\">Siipiweikot<\/a>.\u00a0Some people confess they have never had proper wings or never liked them before coming to this\u00a0legendary restaurant in Tampere. They also say that the hot sauce served with the wings causes addiction.<\/p>\n<h2>Local bread \u201criev\u00e4\u201d<\/h2>\n<p>Another specialty typical of Tampere and Pirkanmaa region in general is riev\u00e4, or ri\u00e4v\u00e4 in local dialect. This thin mixed grain loaf is traditionally baked from barley flour. Numerous local bakeries still produce riev\u00e4s. They are best served warm with slightly salted butter. Enjoy it at its best in some caf\u00e9s that have their own bakery such as or buy one right away from the local bakeries or super markets.<\/p>\n<h2>Doughnuts in Pyynikki observation tower<\/h2>\n<p>The celebrated doughnuts with sugar sprinkles, baked in <a href=\"https:\/\/visittampere.fi\/en\/attraction\/pyynikki-observation-tower-and-cafe\/\">the caf\u00e9 at the observation tower Pyynikki<\/a> for decades, are one of the classic tastes in Tampere. Thanks to the secret recipe, the caf\u00e9 has long caught the attention of guidebooks about Finland. However, there are often so many people wishing to enjoy doughnuts that you have to wait in a queue stretching down the street, rain or shine. You can also enjoy the famous doughnuts at the market hall.<\/p>\n<p>In Tampere, we believe that it is always a good day for a doughnut. \u201cA doughnut a day keeps your butt round\u201d, says the tower cafe\u2019s official slogan.
