The world's first Sauna Raft Regatta – “The Sauna is Free” – will be held in Tampere, the world sauna capital, on July 27, 2019. July 27 is also the national Sauna Day – obviously in Tampere!
The saunas that participate in the regatta will sail from Hiedanranta, past the Uittotunneli, an old log-floating tunnel, collect around the Särkänniemi amusement park, proceed as a flotilla toward Lapinniemi, and even hook by Koukkuniemi, so that the folks at the retirement home can see them and try out the saunas. The award ceremony and Sauna Party will be on the terrace of the Lapinniemi Holiday Club Hotel from 4 to 6 pm.
There'll be live artists, music, drinks, and a relaxed time – all with a minimum of stiffness.
The oldest working sauna in Teisko will also be announced during the ceremony at the Lapinniemi Holiday Club.
“The Sauna is free! – Also in Teisko”: Every owner of a sauna by the water will heat their saunas and invite friends and neighbors to bathe.
The dress code for the day will be a bathrobe, swimwear, a towel, sauna slippers, and a sauna cap – with a sauna whisk under the arm. The local buses – the Nysse – will offer free service to all wearing a bathrobe.
