Tampere is situated between two big lakes, Näsijärvi and Pyhäjärvi, which makes it just the perfect location for refreshing and even wild water activities! And the surrounding cities do not fall short either – you might even find yourself in the rapids…
SUPpaa Tampere organises excellent experiences on SUP boards (SUP=standing up paddling). SUPpaa Tampere offers courses, rents equipment and from the guided activitites you can find for example SUP yoga and nightless nights’ tours. In the summertime, you can find SUP at the Pyynikki swimming beach and the activities concentrate on the Pyhäjärvi side of the city.
Sup Tampere and GetSUP also rent out SUP boards on the beach of Rauhaniemi in Tampere. Courses are also available as well as other rental gear.
SparkPark at Uittotunneli tunnel is summer’s fastest waterpark, where you’ll find the most silent and low emission SeaDoo Spark watercrafts, a rowing boat and flyboard equipment. The waterjets are easy to use and more importantly fun to drive, suitable for first timers as well as more experienced enthusiasts. “Flying” with the flyboard is an amazing experience that every daredevil should try! On order, also guided safaris on the Näsijärvi lake are available.
Tampereen Vesijettivuokraus rents out jet skis, wakeboard and SUP boards, water skis or even a floating sauna on the pier! The rental is located in Hatanpää, at Tampere Soutukeskus rowing centre, and they also organize flyboarding.
Cable Wakepark & Camping – WakeValley in Ylöjärvi is the place for trying out cable wakeboarding! This summer activity is growing in popularity all the time, where there’s a cable going across the lake pulling the wakeboarder to speed on a track with ramps and trick rails. Cable wakeboarding doesn’t require any previous experience – with just some will to try one can already get started! There are also SUP boards on rent.
In Lempäälä, instead of a lake you can find yourself in the rapids – floating! Riverfloating is organised all year round and you can hardly tell the difference in temperature – this acitivity is carried out in a drysuit, which keeps you warm and dry even in the middle of the winter!
With Hiking Travel, you can also try out the water ball – a transparent ball filled with air big enough for a person to get into and walk or run in – allowing you to experience the water element from a different point of view.
If you’re looking for something a bit more serene to do, there are also traditional canoes, kayaks and rowing boats available in Tampere. Hiking Travel Hit rents canoes and kayaks ranging from the smaller squirt kayak to big canoes. Tres Hombres have a selection of single kayaks for rent from a couple of hours to even a week. Kayaks can be rented also from Kelo ja kallio Adventures. There are some rowing boats for rent in Camping Härmälä (as well as SparkPark mentioned above).
Water Action Park is a newcomer on the island Viikinsaari. They organize flyboarding classes for groups and rent waterjets (only booking in advance). A rowing boat, canoes and SUP boards can be rented right away from the information desk of Viikinsaari.
