Pyynikinharju is a classic that you shouldn’t miss. Its forest trails offer a break from the city’s hectic pace, and for a couple of euros you can get to the Pyynikki observation tower for a breathtaking view of the city surrounded by lakes. If your budget can stretch a few euros, the legendary doughnut at Pyynikki cafeteria is worth a try.
The Pispala stairs will challenge your calves, but at the top, the reward is a stunning panorama of lake Näsijärvi. On the same trip, you can stop at the Pyykkimettän puisto park lookout, where the city lights are at their most beautiful during sunset. The viewpoint offers breathtaking scenery regardless of the season.
Hatanpää Arboretum offers a soothing nature experience and beautiful garden views for free. Here you can wander around admiring the different species of trees and plants, or even have a picnic and enjoy the peace and quiet of nature right next to the city.

During the summer, art lovers will love the Finlayson Art Area 2025, which will showcase graphic art, paintings, photography, video art, sculpture and other art forms. Each year, it features some of Finland’s best-known artists. The event is open from 13 June to 24 August 2025, and exhibitions are free of charge. In addition, the Vehoniemi Automobile Museum offers free admission and takes visitors back in time with a wonderful collection of old vehicles. While you’re there, stop by the Vehoniemi Observation Tower to admire the views.
Libraries are not just for book lovers, they are also stages for events. The Main Library Metso, often hosts writers’ meetings, exhibitions and cultural evenings open to all.
