Sailor’s Bar & Grill is a traditional Finnish pub in Tampere, serving beer, rum, schnapps and classic Finnish grill-counter food. You are equally welcome to stop by for a drink, something to eat, or both.
The food comes from the Finnish grill kiosk tradition – simple, filling night grub familiar to generations of Finns. Local favourites include makkaraperunat, sausages and fries with classic grill condiments, pärämätsi, a meat-filled Tampere speciality with roots in Tatar cuisine, and Sailor’s Torpedo, a large Finnish meat pie filled with grilled sausages and toppings. The kitchen stays open late: until midnight from Sunday to Thursday and until 01:00 on Fridays and Saturdays.
Sailor’s maritime character has grown organically over the years. Finnish sailors have brought photographs of ships they have worked on to the pub, and these have become part of the interior and the story of the place.
Sport is part of the pub atmosphere, with ice hockey, football, Finnish baseball (pesäpallo) and major international sporting events shown on the screens.
Travellers are always welcome, and the staff are happy to help visitors find things to see and do around Tampere.
Informal and distinctly local, Sailor’s offers an easy-going glimpse of everyday Finnish pub culture.
