Manse Pride Week is visible in Tampere with flags flying high and events colouring the city life on June 9–15. This year’s Pride Week will offer queer indie movies, friendships in the form of “speed friending” an picknics for all, arts, songs and workshops. The theme of the week is Yhtä suurta perhettä – One big family!
The week starts off with the raising of the rainbow flag on Monday, June 9th at 11 a.m. at Nalkala Field. The City of Tampere will hoist a specially designed Pride flag created just for Pride Week to mark the beginning of the celebration.
To mark the opening day of Pride Week, the stone kiosk on Annikinkatu will open its doors and transform into a pop-up rainbow café.
At the Labour Museum Werstas, you can donate memories such as items or photographs. Werstas is collecting Finnish LGBTQ+ history, especially everyday life images, with a low-threshold approach.
On Tuesday, June 10, the Youth Pride House will open its doors and serve as a meeting place for young people throughout Pride Week until Friday. Puistokonsertit goes Pride will bring this amazing band and artist to the Laikku stage: Kiukkupussy & Narri koira and Elsi Sloan.
At Arthouse Cinema Niagara, queer-themed films will be screened from June 11–13. On Wednesday, Echoes of Brokeback Mountain will be shown, on Thursday For Boys, and on Friday the comedy The Summer with Carmen.
In the world’s sauna capital, what better way to enjoy Manse Pride Week than with a warm steam? On Thursday, the legendary Rajaportti Sauna offers an open public sauna session.
Friday is also preparation day for the parade. Haven’t made your sign yet? Head to Youth Pride House for a crafting workshop, a sign-making workshop, and a T-shirt workshop.
Saturday crowns the week
The Manse Pride week culminates to the Pride March and associated festivities held in Sorsapuisto on the 14th of June. The march starts from Hämeenkatu, ending up in Sorsapuisto Park, where the main celebration of the week of events will take place.
The March starts at 2:00 p.m. with the following route: Hämeenkatu (Central Square) – Rautatienkatu – Rongan underpass – Vellamonkatu – Tammelan puistokatu – Yliopistonkatu – Sorsapuisto
The Manse Pride Main Celebration will begin around 3:00 p.m. in Sorsapuisto, once the march arrives. The event will be hosted by Arttu Soilumo. Before the main act, KAUNO will keep up the atmosphere. DJ Sara-Maaria keeps the party going troughout the event. The restrooms in Tampere Hall are available for event attendees. Gender neutral restrooms are available.
