Cafés in the city centre

Next to McDonald’s in Tuomiokirkonkatu street you can find the entrance to a totally new world of flavor. Pyymäen Oma is a bakery, a coffeehouse and a lunch restaurant all wrapped in one. There’s been a bakery at this location for half a century and there’s an abundance of sweet and savoury pastries on offer. Pyymäen Oma remains loyal to the classics and traditional recipes while thinking about the new trends at the same time.

Recently opened on the prime location of Hämeenkatu, Pyymäen Aira offers delicious lunches, specialty coffees, and brunch, along with freshly baked bread from its own bakery, artisan pastries, wines, and cocktails.

Relove Second hand & Café is located in the first and the third floor of Stockmann department store. Their seasonal and wide selection consists of different vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free salty and sweet pastries and snacks. All of Relove’s home-baked cakes are gluten-free, and you can also order cakes from us for parties. You might also want to enjoy a glass of wine or champagne. Make sure you also try their all day breakfast, too!

Pella’s café & bakery is all about handcrafted treats, a cozy vibe, and a great overall experience. During the week, you can enjoy breakfast and a lunch buffet, while weekends are perfect for brunch. They’ve got special diets covered, with most items being gluten-free and lactose-free — without skimping on taste.

Probably the most poetic café in Tampere is Kahvila Runo (the poem). Inside you can find two floors of cozy space filled with books and coffee aroma. This is one of the few places in the city, which does not offer Wi-Fi and intentionally so: people come here to have a chat and rest in the company of a good book. The café regularly hosts poetry nights and small exhibitions, as well as sells local hand-made items. A wide range of baked goods deserves a special attention. According to a visitor on Tripadvisor, “a cake baked here is to die for”.

Fazer Café is a modern classic café where you can enjoy the view to Tammerkoski rapids, traditional breakfasts and lunch during weekdays, as well as one of the tastiest and most stylish brunches in the city during weekends. The Fazer Café sells bread, pastries and cakes as well as chocolate and sweets.

Located on Aleksanterinkatu, Onda brings together art, music, and community in a cozy and inspiring atmosphere. You’ll find everything from coffee to cocktails, along with small bites to enjoy.

Café Luotsi is a charming café in Ranta-Tampella, Tampere. Situated right by the canal and next to the waterfront recreational areas and outdoor trails, Luotsi offers a wide selection of sweet and savory treats in addition to various drinks.

Waffle Cafés

Where to start? Surely, in the waffle cafés. That is the place where guests from Helsinki head straight from the railroad station. The good news is that Tampere has two of them. The foundation was set by the café Vohvelikahvila on the bank of Tammerkoski in 1992. For 22 years, their waffles have been made following a secret recipe that the owner does not give neither to guests, nor to journalists. When it’s warmer outside, you may enjoy the waffles on the terrace opening to a view of Cathedral’s spire. The other café is located on Tuomiokirkonkatu.

Atmospheric cafés

Café Tallipiha is a fascinating café in the charming wooden house, in the idyllic Tallipiha Stable Yards in Finlayson area. Mouthwatering savoury pies, delicious cake and pastries in the atmosphere of the historical milieu have won the hearts of the locals as well as visitors from all over the world. Come enjoy traditional Finnish pastry or have a plate of inexpensive home-cooked soup for lunch.

Café Amurin Helmi, located in the Amuri Museum of Historic Housing, is a lovely café with a historical feel. Here you can enjoy a slice of traditional bread or a delicious cinnamon bun. Try the soup lunch, it’s a favourite of many locals!

In the atmospheric setting of Tampere Market Hall, you’ll find Cafe de Halle. The café is known for owner Julia’s delicious pastries and other treats, all made fresh on-site daily. The café also offers specialty coffees and an extensive selection of teas.

At Lapinniemi Manor, you’ll discover Tampere’s hidden café, located inside the BYPIAS boutique. While enjoying your coffee, you can browse the store’s unique selection in a beautifully cozy setting.

Founded in the early 1970s, Konditoria Mari now operates in Nekala. The café is famous for its filled baguettes, blueberry-vanilla doughnuts, and Turkish Peremetz meat pies – all handmade on-site!

Best doughnuts and cinnamon rolls in the world

Best doughnuts in Tampere — this reputation was earned with the ginger sugar doughnuts baked following a secret recipe at the café of the Pyynikki Observation Tower. You can often see a queue outside the tower: people are allured not only by the spectacular view from the tower. You can also find these doughnuts from the café Munkkikahvila located in the Tampere Market Hall.

For those looking for something really Finnish, head to Bakery Café Puusti and try their cinnamon rolls. In this unique city café you can sense the atmosphere of grandma’s house as well as the urban beat of the city, as it’s located by the Tullintori shopping centre, opposite to Tampere Hall and Sorsapuisto park. The cinnamon rolls are baked using real butter, organic flours and Ceylon cinnamon.
