Did you know that Tampere is home to the World’s Only Moomin Museum? At the Moomin Museum, located in the Tampere Hall, you can experience something truly unique and see Moomin artworks exactly as Tove Jansson originally created them. The museum is a treasure trove for fans of the Moomins and visual art alike. The collection of illustrations and dioramas donated by Tove Jansson to Tampere makes the museum an enchanting experience that captivates visitors of all ages!
Don’t forget to visit the Moomintroll statue in Sorsapuisto, right next to Tampere Hall. Did you know that the statue was modeled after a diorama figure created by Tove Jansson’s life partner, Tuulikki Pietilä, in the 1980s? The bronze statue was cast in 2004 at the initiative of architect Raili Pietilä, the wife of Tuulikki’s brother.
Welcome to the Moominhouse exhibition at the Moomin Museum
Explore the iconic Moominhouse, built by Tove Jansson, Tuulikki Pietilä, and Pentti Eistola in 1979. In the exhibition, you can discover the house’s most hidden corners, including spots usually out of sight, like the Moominhouse sauna! Visitors can also learn about the materials, sketches, architecture and building process. Building the Moominhouse was a joyful playtime for its creators. Originally made for the International Illustration Biennial in Bratislava in 1979, the diorama toured various countries and exhibitions before Tove Jansson donated it to the city of Tampere in 1986. Today, it has a permanent home in the Moomin Museum, where it is a beloved centerpiece of the permanent exhibition.
The exhibition will be on display at the Moomin Museum from June 7, 2025, to August 16, 2026.
Moomin Mug Mania exhibition
Moomin Mugs are something you’ll find in many Finnish homes. The Moomin Museum’s new exhibition Moomin Mug Mania explores Moomin mugs as iconic and popular collector’s items, as well as the philosophy, sociology, and cultural history of collecting. What is the secret behind the popularity of Moomin mugs? And how are they connected to contemporary lifestyles and everyday life? What kinds of mugs become coveted and valuable collector’s items?
Moomin souvenirs
Tampere Hall’s shop’s selection includes exclusive Moomin Museum products like coffee, tea, chocolate, posters and post cards as well as Moomin books written and illustrated by Tove Jansson, Tampere souvenirs and classic Finnish brands (Iittala, Finlayson, Marimekko), and handicrafts by local designers. Products and albums from the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra are also available.

Moomin brunch
Tampere Hall’s restaurant Tuhto serves a delicious Moomin brunch is served on select days and is perfect for the whole family. The highlight of the brunch is Moominmamma’s pancake buffet! Moomin wallpapers in Akaa
Sandudd, based in the city of Akaa, is the only company in the world that manufactures Moomin wallpapers. The collection includes three Moomin designs, and in spring 2026, a new design was launched based on Tove Jansson’s original wallpaper sketch.
The factory has its own showroom dedicated to Sandudd’s Moomin heritage. There, children and adults can explore the world of Moomin wallpapers, their stories and designs in a whole new way. The showroom also features Tove Jansson’s original Moomin wallpaper sketch from 1959.
