Tampere is located in the western lake district of Finland, and the city itself is located nicely between two big lakes, Näsijärvi and Pyhäjärvi. There are over a hundred more lakes inside the city boundaries, and nearly on every lake you can find a beach or a place to swim in. Here are some of the top picks of the swimming places in Tampere.

Tampere outdoor swimming pool

Tampere outdoor swimming pool is located in Kaleva district next to Tampere swimming center. Tampere outdoor swimming pool is one of the biggest outdoor swimming pools in Finland, with four different pools: children’s pool, wading pool, diving pool with stands of 1, 3, 5, 7 and 10 m and a 50-meter pool. From the area one can also find a café, dressing rooms, lockers, showers and a green area.

Pyynikki

Pyynikki swimming beach is on the shore of Pyhäjärvi lake, in the middle of the beautiful Pyynikki forest area. From the beach you can see far out to the lake, and the beach itself is rather big with sandy areas, green grass and even rocky terrain. Pyynikki is not far from the city centre, and in the summertime you can also test SUP boarding there. Changing cubicle, toilet, kiosk and playground.

Rauhaniemi

Rauhaniemi swimming beach is located on the shore of lake Näsijärvi, close to the city centre. Many locals go to Rauhaniemi regularly as there is also a public sauna  to relax in. Changing cubicle, toilet, diving board, kiosk, sauna and shower.

Kaupinoja

If you’re looking for something a bit calmer and smaller, we can recommend the swimming beach in Kaupinoja, not too far from the centre. There’s a public sauna on this beach as well, so even if the weather might be chilly at times, you can always go to the sauna to warm up. You can even rent a canoe and combine your swimming trip with an adventure on the lake!

Eliander

Eliander, or as the locals might say, Onkiniemi beach is situated a bit outside the city centre, close to Särkänniemi amusement park, on lake Näsijärvi. The kids will love the newly built playground, dogs have their own park to run around in and there’s some nice grass area to enjoy some picnic. There’s also an ice cream kiosk on the beach in the summertime! Changing cubicle, toilet and pier.

Suolijärvi

Suolijärvi swimming beach, located in Hervanta, is easy to reach by tram! The beach is located in the middle of the most beautiful nature, and there’s a nature path going around the lake where even kids can go to take a break from watery fun, and enjoy the sceneries from up the hill towards the lake instead. Changing cubicle, toilet, pier, kiosk, shower and outdoors exercise equipment.
