This small museum presents the eventful history of Jämi airfield since the 1930s. The centrepiece of the exhibition is the Harakka II (Magpie II) glider, built according to a 1940s model. The first course in gliding in Jämijärvi was organised in 1935. Even since then, Jämi has been one of Finland’s most important and versatile recreational aviation centres.

A gliding competition was to be organised in Jämijärvi as part of the Olympic games in 1940, but the games were cancelled due to the war. When the Olympics were held in Helsinki in 1952, gliding had already lost its status as an official Olympic sport. During World War II, a number of military courses and exercises were held in Jämi. After the war, the name was changed to Jämi Aviation School. Various recreational aviation courses were organised in Jämi until the 1970s.
