Welcome to try ice climbing!
Ice climbing trials are organized at two different locations:
– In Helvetinjärvi National Park, at the Helvetinjärvi icefall, in Ruovesi.
– In Central Finland, in front of the old Pönttövuori railway tunnel, about 20 km from Jyväskylä.
Ice climbing is surprisingly exciting and fun. All you need is weather-appropriate clothing and a good outdoor spirit. No previous climbing experience is required. Anyone with basic fitness can manage the sport and challenge themselves. The Helvetinjärvi icefall is massive, 30 meters high, and we recommend that you have tried ice climbing at least once before if you plan to go there. Ice climbing involves the use of ice axes and crampons attached to boots. You will be safely secured with a harness and rope, belayed by trained instructors. All equipment is provided by the organizer. Between climbs you can admire nature’s ice art and enjoy your snacks during breaks.
