Outdoor Express – your ticket to nature

Hop on the bus and effortlessly and sustainably venture into nature!

Outdoor Express takes you directly from Tampere city centre to the great outdoors and back. The service is designed for both locals and tourists, aiming to provide an easy opportunity for everyone to enjoy hiking and outdoor activities.

Outdoor Express shuttlebus services operates to Seitseminen, Helvetinjärvi and Isojärvi National Parks on summer weekends. Once you arrive, you will have a few hours to explore and immerse yourself in nature. After refreshing hike, you can enjoy the cafés and restaurant services in the parks. You can also bring a tent and return the next day with the provided transportation. Note that camping is only allowed in certain spots in national parks. Tickets are available at Matkahuolto online store.

At Seitseminen national park, the bus first stops at the Nature Center and then follows an internal route to Kovero Traditional Farm and the accessible nature trail of Saari-Soljonen. At Helvetinjärvi national park, the destination is the Helvetinportti restaurant and at Isojärvi, it is Heretyn Metsäkämpän kahvila café.

Art Express – sustainably to cultural attractions

Art & Sauna Express transports culture-hungry travelers from to Serlachius Museums and their new Art Sauna. Serlachius Museums are a unique culture attraction located in Mänttä, a one hour drive from Tampere. Art Express provides visitors an easy and comfortable option to get there direct from Tampere city centre.

During the winter season bus connection operates as Serlachius Art & Sauna Express on Tuesdays, check out more and book your tickets here! Bus timetables are matched with the train timetable from Helsinki to Tampere and back to provide a sustainable travel chain also from the Finnish Capital.

Art Express also took culture lovers to Nuutajärvi Glass Village, Visavuori, and Voipaala Art Center during weekends in June 2023 as part of a pilot done in cooperation with Operation Pirkanmaa. The goal is to improve accessibility to cultural attractions and provide the opportunity for sustainable day trips immersed in culture at the top destinations in Pirkanmaa. Pilot trips received great feedback and options for continuing the service are being explored, more information during spring 2024.

Bike & Rail – unique experiences by train and bike

Bike & Rail combines bicycle tourism with rail transport, offering the opportunity for sustainable and experiential day trips in Tampere region.

During the summer season of 2023, Bike & Rail service is being tested in collaboration with the Serlachius Museums, the city of Mänttä-Vilppula, and Kaakau, which provides the city bike service. The idea behind the trial is to explore how city bikes can be used as travel bikes in conjunction with train connections.

Book your bike in advance through the Donkey Republic app and hop on the train in Tampere. Upon arrival, you can pick up your bike at Vilppula station and head to Serlachius Museums and other experiences in Mänttä-Vilppula. Biking is an excellent way to explore all the attraction in the Art Town, for example. At the end of the day, you can return the bike to Vilppula station and take the train back to Tampere. Alternatively, you can choose to stay longer!

Bike & Rail service is available until the end of September 2023. Planning for summer season 2024 and adding new destinations from Lake Trails to the service is currently underway.
