The former industrial area of Hiedanranta is now flourishing with a new public sauna, events, restaurants, and summer terraces. Easily reached by tram, Hiedanranta is perfect for summer excursions, and its stunning street art makes it a unique destination.

As the Sauna Capital of the World, Tampere now boasts even more public saunas. A new sauna village has opened in Toijala Harbor (Akaa), offering not only saunas but also relaxing floating sessions and fun water park experiences.

Also worth trying is the Niihaman Ulkoilumaja’s Sauna, which offers an authentic Finnish summer cottage sauna experience on the shores of Lake Niihamajärvi.

New Things to Experience

To celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Moomin stories, Amazing City has launched a new Amazing Walks route: Walk Like a Moomin – Exploring the Moomin World in Tampere. In addition to exploring the streets, parks, and alleys of central Tampere, the adventure introduces visitors to Moominvalley characters and the world and philosophy of artist Tove Jansson. The adventure can be started at any time, as it is available in the Amazing City mobile app. The map and checkpoints in the app guide users through the route, enhanced with interactive and informative tasks.

Culture lovers of all ages will find plenty to enjoy in this summer’s exhibitions. For example, the Superheroes exhibition at Museum Centre Vapriikki takes visitors on a journey from mythic heroes to today’s superheroes. Tampere Hall’s summer exhibition is Van Gogh Alive, a captivating multimedia experience. At the Moomin Museum, visitors can enjoy the Welcome to the Moominhouse! exhibition throughout the summer.

At the Labour Museum Werstas, the Grumpy Girls – Class Struggles exhibition explores the intersections of economy, class, and girlhood. The popular Finlayson Art Area returns again, spreading across galleries and courtyards in the historic factory district.

Taste Tampere

Tampere’s restaurant scene is thriving. Be sure to try Bad Hombres, praised as Finland’s best Mexican street food restaurant, and exciting newcomers such as Väst in Hiedanranta, Katto by Saarikoski in Pyynikki, Restaurant Kopo, Brasserie Deux, and Atmos Brewery. Other new hotspots worth visiting include Tehtaan Terassi in Hiedanranta, the Sardinian Café Karolis, the trendy Flou (where you can also enjoy a sauna and lake swim), and Rookie’s, offering elevated pub-style food. Overlooking the city rooftops, Periscope with its terraces remains one of the most popular spots to relax and enjoy great food with friends. This summer also saw the opening of Green Hippo Café in Tampere.

For foodies, a must-visit in August is the Mänttä Food Festival, which combines art and gastronomy. You won’t want to miss it!

Tampere Central Square transforms into a stage for major summer events. From July to September, Tampere will host the Disc Golf World Championships, European Athletics U20 Championships, IVV Olympiad, and the European Basketball Championships. The Central Square will serve as a free-entry event area, offering various activities, programs, and services.

Visit Tampere’s tourist information point will be open daily at Central Square until September 3. Also at the information point, Rotval Tours offers food walks, a sauna bike tour and even midnight sun cycling experiences.
