Olympia

Built a hundred years ago, the cinema’s auditorium provides an impressive setting for live performances. The Olympia stage hosts the hottest artists and bands of the moment, from chart-toppers to the most intriguing newcomers.

The Olympic Quarter is also home to Muusa, a restaurant known for its vegetarian and vegan dishes. In the summer, you can start the evening with a drink on the rooftop terrace in the upper-floor courtyard.

Tavara-asema

Within the walls of this Art Nouveau-style building, steeped in history, a wide variety of gigs and events are held throughout the year. As well as gigs, Tavara-asema hosts, among other things, discos for people over 40-year-olds, and various themed events.

Tavara-asema is also the venue for the classic nightclubs familiar from Tullikamari.

Tullikamari

The refurbished Tullikamari will open in late 2026 following a comprehensive refurbishment.

Tullikamari, which is over a hundred years old, has been the venue for thousands of events for more than 30 years. It is a well-known venue for a wide variety of concerts, club nights and cultural events. Following its refurbishment, Tullikamari will continue this tradition in even better surroundings.

Tampere Hall

The largest concert and conference centre in the Nordic countries offers a varied programme of concerts and other events throughout the year.

It is also home to the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra and the Tampere Opera. The world’s only Moomin Museum and the Courtyard by Marriott Tampere City hotel are also housed under the same roof.

Nokia Arena

Located in the heart of the city, the Nokia Arena is the venue for Tampere’s major concerts and performances. The arena can host up to 15 000 people, and its versatile facilities enable spectacular, world-class event experiences.

Nokia Arena hosts annual arena shows and concerts. It also welcomes both Finnish favourites and international stars.

A few hours outdoors

You don’t always need to set aside a whole day to enjoy nature. Tampere has plenty of nature spots where you can quickly leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind and explore forests, lakes and rocky landscapes. A shorter outing is also easy to fit into a city break.

Check out these three tips below for a few hours of hassle-free exploring in Tampere.

1. Nature trails

Tampere has plenty of nature trails to explore across the city, perfect for a short escape into nature. Head to the lakeside and marsh scenery of Tohloppi, explore Viikinsaari Island, go birdwatching at Lake Iidesjärvi or wander along the forest trails of Niihama.

2. Explore the local nature by tram

Many of Tampere’s nature spots are easy to reach without a car. Hop on a tram and head to the scenic Pyynikki ridge, explore the extensive trail network in Kauppi, or discover the forests and lakes around Hervanta, including Lake Hervantajärvi and Lake Suolijärvi.

3. Enjoy a picnic by the campfire

You can also combine a few-hour hike with a snack break by the campfire. In Tampere, there are campfire sites and lean-to shelters close to the city and in more wooded hiking areas.

Day hikes in Tampere and the surrounding area

If you have a whole day to spend outdoors, Tampere and the surrounding region offer plenty of options. Pack some snacks and head out for a day hike through forests, along lakeshores or amid the stunning landscapes of nearby national parks. Check out our tips for a day hike below.

Kintulammi Hiking and Nature Reserve

Kintulammi Hiking and Nature Reserve is located in northern Tampere, about a 35-minute drive from the city centre. The area has around 18 kilometres of marked trails, with several circular routes to choose from for hikes of different lengths.

Along the trails, you’ll find several lean-to shelters, campfire sites and other rest areas. Kirkkokivi lean-to shelter is one of the main rest spots in the area and can be reached from the P1 car park via an accessible path of around 300 metres.

Ritajärvi Nature Reserve

Ritajärvi Nature Reserve in Sastamala offers peaceful lake and forest scenery about an hour’s drive from Tampere city centre. Choose from three marked trails ranging from around 2 to 5 kilometres, or combine them into an approximately 8-kilometre loop around all three lakes.

The moderately challenging trails lead through old forests and past three small, secluded lakes. Rocky terrain and large boulders give the landscape its distinctive character.

Seitseminen National Park

Located in Ylöjärvi and Ikaalinen, Seitseminen National Park is about an hour’s drive from Tampere city centre. Around 60 kilometres of marked trails offer plenty of ways to explore the park’s old-growth forests, peaceful mires and scenic ridges. There are options for everything from shorter outings to full-day hikes and longer treks.

Shelters, campfire sites and overnight facilities are available along the routes. Saari-Soljanen also has an accessible trail and facilities.

Laipanmaa Hiking Area

Laipanmaa Hiking Area, located in Kangasala and Pälkäne, is about an hour’s drive from Tampere city centre. The area has around 30 kilometres of marked trails, with options ranging from shorter walks to longer day hikes.

The trails take you through a varied landscape of managed forests, mires, small forest lakes and rocky outcrops. The terrain is mostly easy to navigate, although some sections are more challenging.

Pukala Recreational Forest

Just over an hour’s drive from Tampere city centre, Pukala Recreational Forest in Orivesi is particularly well suited for day hikes. The trails can also be combined for an overnight adventure. Lean-to shelters and campfire sites can be found along the trails.

At the heart of the area lies the clear-water Lake Pukala, surrounded by forests, rocky hills and small forest lakes. The varied terrain and beautiful lakeside views make Pukala an excellent destination for exploring the outdoors.

Helvetinjärvi National Park

Head about 1.5 hours from Tampere city centre to Ruovesi and the rugged landscape of Helvetinjärvi National Park. Around 40 kilometres of marked trails lead through forests, along lakeshores and across rocky terrain.

Helvetinkolu, one of the park’s best-known sights, can be reached via the “Helvetistä itään” circular trail. Some sections are challenging due to steep climbs and significant elevation changes.

Isojärvi National Park

Isojärvi National Park, located in Kuhmoinen, is about a 1.5-hour drive from Tampere city centre. The park has several circular trails of varying lengths, which can also be combined into a longer hike of around 20 kilometres.

Isojärvi’s trails take you through forests and lakeside views, with traces of the area’s logging history and beaver activity along the way. The terrain is rocky in places, and elevation changes make some sections challenging. The park also has easier and accessible trail sections.

Overnight trips and longer hikes

Birgitta Trail

The Birgitta Trail is an approximately 50-kilometre circular hiking route through the forests and lakeside scenery of Lempäälä. Suitable for both day hikes and overnight trips, the trail can be explored in its entirety or in shorter sections.

There are plenty of campfire sites and rest spots along the way, as well as lean-to shelters and huts for overnight stays. Much of the trail passes through privately owned managed forests, so forestry work may occasionally affect the landscape and trail conditions.

Kaarinanpolku Hiking Trail

Kaarinanpolku Hiking Trail is an approximately 60-kilometre hiking route across Kangasala, connecting with the Birgitta Trail in the south. It can be explored as a longer hike or in shorter sections suitable for day hikes.

The landscape varies from forests, wetlands and nature reserves to more urban surroundings with services nearby. For an even longer adventure, Kaarinanpolku Trail can be combined with the Birgitta Trail for a multi-day hike.

Pirkan Taival

Pirkan Taival is an extensive hiking network covering around 300 kilometres, making it ideal for longer and multi-day hikes. The network consists of several interconnected routes, allowing you to choose anything from shorter sections to a longer journey through the Tampere region.

Around 30 lean-to shelters and campfire sites can be found along the way. Pirkan Taival also forms part of the E6 European long distance path.

Spend a night in a national park

The national parks near Tampere are also great destinations for overnight hikes. In Seitseminen and Isojärvi National Parks, you can combine hiking with an overnight stay and spend more time exploring the surrounding nature. Beyond the national parks, Pukala Recreational Forest is another option for an overnight trip.

Tampere Festival of Light celebrates the darkest season of the year by illuminating the city centre with magical light spheres, street projections and exciting light art from October until Epiphany. Stable Yards is one the Tampere’s most atmospheric place and during autumn the area becomes especially magical as the courtyard is illuminated with lanterns, candles and soft seasonal lights. Summer café TÖNÖ – A summer café built inside a shipping container on the shores of Pyhäjärvi lake in Eteläpuisto area. The café serves delicious salads, toasts and more. Enjoy summer days with refreshing cold drinks and ice cream! Versatile events and live music will take place throughout the summer.

Summer café Pyynikin Hiekkarannat – Open every day at Pyynikki beach, weather permitting, until the end of August. Ice cream, gelato, coffee as well as beach food available.

Eliander ice cream kiosk – During the summer, the kiosk at Eliander beach in Onkiniemi offers ice cream and refreshments, as well as beers and ciders from Plevna Brewery.

Café Seila – Located at Naistenlahti Harbour, this container café is the perfect spot to grab something to eat or drink on a summer’s day. The menu features bagels, flatbread wraps, muffins and ice cream, among other treats. There’s even a special ice cream just for dogs!

At the heart of the city

Café À la Ranta – A brand-new market square café at Laukontori. Stop by for breakfast, brunch, lunch or an afternoon coffee and enjoy the summer sun.

Café Laukontori – Located in Alaranta, this charming summer café offers freshly baked doughnuts, sweet buns and savoury pies, making it the perfect stop for a summer treat. If you’re feeling hungrier, you can also enjoy a hearty bowl of creamy salmon soup.

Café Lempi – This family-friendly summer café is conveniently located next to the Pikku Kakkonen playground. The menu includes delicious milkshakes, smoothies and if you’re feeling hungry, you’ll also find a selection of sweet and savoury snacks.

Old Church summer café – Set in the bell tower of Tampere’s Old Church, this charming summer cafe offers a peaceful terrace overlooking the Central Square. Stop by for a coffee and selection of sweet and savoury treats, all at affordable prices.

Coffee breaks outside the city center

Hempee ice cream kiosk – In Hiedanranta, this ice cream kiosk offers treats such as cookie ice cream sandwiches, artisan ice creams and various coffee drinks. You can also borrow picnic blankets and different games from the kiosk. It’s easy to get there by tram, too!

Uittotunneli Café & Bistro – A welcoming lakeside café and bistro in the beautiful surroundings of Santalahti on the shores of Lake Näsijärvi. Enjoy traditional waffles and coffee in the sunshine, or unwind with a glass of sparkling wine as the evening sets in. Throughout the summer, the café also hosts free live music performances.

Café Hellman – A charming terrace café on Viikinsaari Island, welcoming visitors throughout the summer. Relax with a speciality coffee, cake or pastry while taking in the stunning views across Lake Pyhäjärvi.

Liuttu Farmhouse – A lovely old farm house located in Teisko, where you’ll find a café, a vintage style shop and a little museum with some old tools. There are donkeys, sheep and chicken to keep you company.

Summer café at Hatanpää mansion – At the summer café and terrace, you can enjoy both savoury and sweet treats, such as bubble waffles, various pastries, baked potato dishes, ice creams, and other refreshments. Please note that the café is occasionally closed due to private events.

Summer café Arboretum – This summer café operates in a former hospital sauna building dating back to the 1920s, next to the rose garden behind Hatanpää Mansion. The café serves pastries, small savoury snacks, ice cream, and soft drinks. It is recommended to check the café’s opening hours on its Facebook page.

Villa Vino Summer Café – Located in Mutala, Ylöjärvi, this summer café is a paradise for food lovers. The menu features a wide selection of freshly prepared dishes, including pizzas, bowls, burgers and sweet pastries. Throughout the summer, the café also hosts a variety of events.

Kesämökki Café – Spend a sunny summer day in Loukonlahti, Pirkkala, enjoying outdoor games, stand-up paddleboarding, delicious treats and refreshing drinks. Furry friends are welcome too, with homemade ice cream specially made for dogs.

Murole Summer Café – Looking for a sweet treat surrounded by beautiful scenery or a relaxing stop on your cycling trip? Located in Ruovesi, Murole Summer Café offers everything from light snacks and coffee to more substantial meals. The café also hosts live performances throughout the summer.

Mokkapirtti – This nostalgic summer café in Valkeakoski is best known as the filming location of the Finnish TV series Kontio & Parmas. The menu includes hot and cold drinks, sweet and savoury treats and, of course, ice cream.

Pakari Summer Café – History and homemade flavours come together in this idyllic countryside café in Orivesi. Discover the stories behind this charming café while treating yourself to delicious homemade pastries made on site.

Villa Ponsa – An idyllic summer café set in a log house built in 1935 in the village of Ponsa. Alongside coffee and tea, here you’ll find a selection of traditional café favourites, all homemade using ingredients from the café’s own garden and nearby forests.

Haralanharju Observation Tower Summer Café – Relax with freshly brewed coffee, refreshing drinks, sweet and savoury treats, or an ice cream while surrounded by the peaceful ridge landscape. Complete your visit with a climb to the observation tower for stunning views over the surrounding countryside.

Waterways to Hämeenlinna

On summer Tuesdays, it is possible to hop onboard Hopealinja’s M/S Silver Moon from Laukontori and travel the waterways to Hämeenlinna. You can spend the whole day enjoying the beautiful green scenery of the lakes Pyhäjärvi and Vanajavesi, and the tasty offering of the boat’s restaurant. Halfway through the journey, there will be a stop at Visavuori where there is enough time to explore the home and studio of renowned Finnish sculptor Emil Wikström and perhaps take a break in the museum café.

The Tampere-Visavuori-Hämeenlinna route operates on Tuesdays between 16.6.–28.7. You can check the schedule from here.

Steam boat Tarjanne and the Poet’s Way

The Poet’s Way steams off on the lake Näsijärvi when the steam boat Tarjanne takes the passengers on a journey to the past. Tarjanne’s charm still works after over 100 years. The famous sound of the Tarjanne steam whistle starts the journey through the unique sceneries of Näsijärvi towards Ruovesi and Virrat. This route has inspired many Finnish artists, and no wonder why!

Tarjanne sails from the Mustalahti harbour to Virrat on Wednesdays and Fridays between 3.6.–15.8. More information and schedule can be found from here.

Viikinsaari – an oasis in the city

Spend an unforgettable evening or a relaxing day on Viikinsaari Island. The boat trip from the Laukontori Harbour in downtown Tampere will take you to a totally different setting and atmosphere. You can relax on the beach or whirl around the dance floor in Finnish waltz at the island’s dance pavilion. Hopealinjat operates regular service from Laukontori to Viikinsaari Island between 13.5.–6.9. You can find the schedule here.

Viikinsaari Island’s summer includes outdoor activities, summer theatre and themed events for kids and adults. Beautiful nature offers experiences for everyone, and the beaches, playgrounds and the nature track around the island complete the perfect summer day. There are also public sauna sessions every weekend. Various events are also held on Viikinsaari Island during the summer.

If you are feeling hungry, you can bring your own food to cook on the island’s barbecue spots or enjoy a meal at the Restaurant Viikinsaari. The beautiful restaurant hall and separate glass porch offer delicious menus and refreshing drinks. All restaurant facilities are licensed for alcohol service. Also in the summer time, you can spend a night on Viikinsaari island, in the stunning Nolla Cabins.

Day and evening cruises on M/S Silver Sky

Onboard the Silver Sky, you can enjoy day, afternoon, and evening cruises on the waves of Lake Pyhäjärvi several days a week, while admiring the beautiful scenery of Tampere’s nearby waters. While indulging in the delicious buffet, the passengers can rest their eyes looking for example at the Pispala district and the Pyynikinharju ridge. The cruises are easy to combine with the shows at Viikinsaari Summer Theater and Pyynikki Summer Theatre.

The daytime cruises on M/S Silver Sky are available between 19.5.–4.9. and the evening cruises between 15.5.–12.6. and 7.8.–28.8.

Experience music concerts in Laukko by boat

On board the Hopealinjat, you can also cruise to Laukko Manor during the summer, where delightful park concerts and gigs are organized in the magnificent surroundings of the manor. In the summer of 2026, there will be over 20 concerts with top Finnish artists. Don’t forget to also visit the art exhibitions at Laukko Manor!

The ship operates between 10.6.–8.8. on concert days, departing from Laukontori in Tampere at 15.15 and the return journey to Tampere is at 21. The ship stops in Rantaniitty, Pirkkala, on both the outbound and return trips, where passengers can also hop onboard. On the ship, you can also enjoy delicious food, as there is a generous buffet available on the outbound journey and some savory snacks on the return journey. You can find more information here.

Manse Pride Week

June is the international LGBTQIA+ Pride Month, and Pride will be celebrated in Tampere annually.

In 2026, Manse Pride Week will take place from June 8–14. Organized by Sinuiksi ry, the event week will be held for the 12th time. Throughout the week, different organizations host various events for all ages. The week culminates in the Manse Pride march and main celebration in Sorsapuisto park. As usual, the event promises activism, joy, celebration, culture, and a sense of community. Read more about Manse Pride week here!

Pride events are also held throughout the surrounding cities and municipalities, including Valkeakoski, Hämeenkyrö, Sastamala, Ylöjärvi, Kangasala, Juupajoki, Akaa, Nokia, Ikaalinen, Ruovesi, and Orivesi. Hum of LGBTQ history

One of the most famous artists in Finnish history and a well-known figure in LGBTQIA+ history, Tove Jansson’s life story can be explored at the World’s only Moomin Museum in Tampere Hall.

The Finnish Labour Museum Werstas, located in the Finlayson area, is responsible for the nationwide documentation of the history of Finnish gender and sexual minorities. Werstas is the only museum in Finland that houses an LGBTIQ+ collection. Read more on the museum’s webpage.

Have fun in safe spaces

Located in Tampere, Nightclub Mixei, Finland’s oldest still-operating LGBTQ nightclub, invites the LGBTQIA+ community and their friends to celebrate as their true selves. Mixei also features guest artists, drag performances, themed nights, and highly popular singles parties from time to time.

Tampere’s newest, captivating series of queer events, [KVÄÄR], is a fun, quirky, and sex-positive event series held at Tavara-asema. Celebrating LGBTQ culture, the queer-themed [KVÄÄR] -events are open to all friends of the LGBTQIA+ community. Come experience the sense of community, safety, and unforgettable moments at [KVÄÄR] events!

Comfortable accommodation options

Want to sleep in a tree? The LGBTQIA+ -friendly accommodation, Kommee Kurki, located in the countryside of Sastamala, offers a unique nature experience. Guests can stay in a tree tent suspended between trees, a privately placed Tentsile Stingray tree tent by the shore of Lintujärvi.
